Gaming News: Indie Games Coming this September

Nintendo has just shown off a total of 29 indie games which are coming to Switch, 2 of which were released today. Most titles’ due dates are set for 2019 while a few are marked down for 2020. My intention in this article isn’t to cover everything, but to highlight titles set to release this September.

I’ve also added one 2020 highlight at the end of the article.

So which games are heading our way?

Ori and the Blind Forest

Sometime back, I was tempted to purchase an Xbox One to play Ori and the Blind Forest. So imagine my delight when the trailer for Switch was finally revealed today during its Indie World presentation.

An earlier press release for the Steam release states:

“Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition is a must-play, award-winning franchise that tells the tale of a young orphan destined for heroics, through a visually stunning action-platformer… Ori and the Blind Forest explores a deeply emotional story about love and sacrifice and the hope that exists in us all.”

The game will release for Nintendo Switch on 27th September.

Risk of Rain 2

The first game on show was Risk of Rain 2. Already available via Early Access on Steam, the game’s described as a “classic multiplayer roguelike.” With your friends, you can explore “randomized stages” or play solo and face off against numerous enemies and bosses.

Risk of Rain 2 will release for Nintendo Switch this Summer.

Torchlight II

Panic Button is bringing Torchlight II to Nintendo Switch. Playing solo or with up to 4 players, you’ll face off against hosts of murderous creatures. The press release describes the as “fast, fun, and filled to the brim with action and loot.”

Torchlight 2 will release for Nintendo Switch on 3rd September.

Creature in the Well

Pinball and Dungeon Crawler fans can look forward to Creature in the Well. In the game, players control “the last remaining BOT-C unit [which must] venture deep into a desert mountain to restore power to an ancient facility, haunted by a desperate Creature.”

Creature in the Well can be preordered via the eShop now and is due to release on 6th September.

2020 Highlight – Eastward

Eastward is an RPG title whose art style has been designed to replicate “90’s Japenese animation”. In the game, you play as John who “[during a dig] discovers a mysterious young girl in a secret facility…[and following his exile] must guide her through dangerous decaying cities, inhabited by hordes of monsters and a quirky cast of characters!”

Other featured September games include titles such as

  • Freedom Finger (2D Side-Scrolling Shoot-em-up)
  • Blasphemous (pixelated action-platformer from Team 17) – 10th September)

That’s it for now.
