Gaming News – Thursday 4th July

It’s time for more gaming news. WayForward is releasing a new game, a kick-starter title is coming to Switch, Bloodstained is receiving a major patch, and a comedy RPG is well received.

The River City Girls are Coming to Switch

If you’re a fan of titles like Final Fight, Streets of Rage, and Renegade, then you may be interested in the upcoming beat-em-up title River City Girls from WayForward.    In the game, you play as Kunio and Riki, whose mission is to rescue their kidnapped boyfriends from a group of River City thugs.

According to an official press release:  “[the game includes] an arsenal of combos, counters, throws, and special attacks… an assortment of enemies… numerous side quests; levelling up with experience points; interaction with NPCs (including guest stars from past River City games); and shops which include a variety of items, food, and gear to boost stats and unlock new abilities. The girls can even wield weapons and recruit defeated foes to join them in combat!”  (Slightly edited for the website)

The game is rated E10+ in the US and will launch in the eShop on 5th September.

GardenPaws is expanding

Garden Paws, the Uber-cute simulation game that’s all about adorable critters, has been on Steam for a few months now. And the devs are constantly adding to the game to expand the adventure. They have added an upgrade for the town plus more than 20 new quests.

Even better as far as I’m concerned: if you don’t want to play this relaxing game on Steam, a Switch release is in the works too!

Bloodstained on Switch to Receive an Important Patch Later This Month

It’s well known that Bloodstained on Nintendo Switch suffers from several issues.  505 Games and the development team behind the game have been hard at work to fix it, and a patch is due to be released on 15th July.

The upcoming patch will fix the following issues:

“Map Improvements

  • Map close button has been remapped to standard exit/close button
  • Marker button has been changed
  • Trail display button has been changed
  • Map scroll speed improved
  • Zoom in and zoom out improved
  • Zoom level retained when reopening the map
  • Auto-center when opening the map
  • Bug fix: No longer displaying enemies for completed quests
  • Fixed items getting stuck on walls/geometry (The functionality of waiting until the item is collected automatically has been left in, in case the issue persists)

Switch-specific Improvements

  • HD Rumble issues in certain areas of the game have been fixed
  • Enabled Traditional Chinese language option
  • Fixed instances where the game would crash while transitioning between rooms
  • Work has been done on the technical “non-visible” side of things to improve input delay, stability, and various optimizations. The teams are continuing to work on these items and we’ll have future updates and plans to share soon.”

Do you think Bloodstained should have been delayed until the above fixes were implemented?  If you’ve already purchased Bloodstained on Switch, then we would love to know your thoughts about it.

Super Cane Magic ZERO on Switch has been well received

Indie title Super Cane Magic ZERO is a comical RPG for Switch that’s recently been promoted with a new trailer by publisher Intragames.  The trailer highlights the game’s positive reception from the likes of Destructoid and GameSpot.  In this wacky RPG adventure players “pick up items… hurl them at enemies, or eat them (but beware the side effects). Explore a beefy campaign with a selection of hand-crafted dungeons and procedurally-generated ones, collect loot, and gain  experience to advance on the seven skill trees” (Official Description edited from email for website)

Super Cane Magic is available via the eShop in both Europe and the US.

And back to Super Mario Maker 2

Youtuber Boomstick Gaming has designed a Downwell style course using Super Mario Maker 2.  Simply try to reach the bottom and achieve the highest score.  If you would like to try it yourself, then the course ID is 2KH-BN0-7VG.

Also, Nintendo Life has a guide listing every Mii costume which can be unlocked while playing Super Mario Maker 2.  Click here to read the full guide.

That’s it from me.  Happy gaming!
