GraviFire is a logic game that mixes the mechanics of movement and gravity. Developed by Potata Company and published by Sometimes You, let’s see what this puzzle game has in store.

The story told through storyboards

Green Fire

The Green Fire has been abducted by aliens and placed into some weird suit that gives him the power to walk and push blocks about the place. To help the green fire you will need to push and pull blocks around for 50 challenging levels. Of course, it is not as simple as just pushing blocks around, you also will have to get used to the force of gravity and the way the blocks fall. Deadly lasers, traps and blocks your unable to move all make an appearance in later levels.

Move the blocks

You’ll have to navigate the puzzle, in which there are blocks to move, deadly lasers to avoid, and gravity to manipulate in a clever puzzle experience. Lasers can be deactivated by stepping on the corresponding coloured switch or by leaving a block on top of the switch. If you manage to complete all 50 puzzles the game has for you, then Green Fire will be able to return home.

Control Cravity

The gameplay is pretty straightforward and the controls are easy to learn. You use the L stick or the D-pad to move the Green Fire around the level. Using the R stick you can control gravity so that you can remove any obstacles on your path. Or to get the boxes to the specific spots in the level that needs to be activated in order to complete the puzzle.

Don’t Get Fried By The Lasers

In some of the levels, you can only use gravity to move the blocks left or right. Any time the direction of gravity is changed, any blocks not held down will move in that direction. You can stop blocks from moving if you hold onto them or use the layout of the level to your advantage. So if there’s no way to move the blocks upwards, you’ll have to make sure they don’t all land on the bottom where you can’t push them up anymore.
On other levels, you have full control of gravity in all directions and the puzzles are trickier to complete.

Restart or Skip

You have the option to skip the level completely if you get stuck or you have trouble completing any of the levels. However, it comes at’  a cost as you only have five level skips, and a ten-minute wait to be able to use the level skip again. When you have used all five-level skips that’s your lot, so use them wisely! You can also restart any of the levels with a press of a button.

Lasers, traps and unmoveable blocks are introduced in later levels. This helps to pick up the pace of the game and add in a few nice mechanics to work around. Green fire can’t be hurt by the lasers but if a block gets zapped by a laser it evaporates and you have to start again.

Visuals and Controls

Gravifire has a nice top-down retro pixel art style so you can see everything going on. At the beginning of the game, the levels are pretty small and appear on the screen in a little box surrounded by black. But as you progress the black border around the level gets smaller as the puzzles get bigger.

Controlling Green fire is simple enough using the joy-sticks as I’ve mentioned, the game runs well on the Nintendo Switch.

Conclusion

Gravifire is an enjoyable gravity-based puzzle game. We have seen this type of puzzle mechanic of moving blocks before in other puzzle games. However, adding gravity into the puzzles gives Gravifire an extra twist.

For fans of the puzzle genre, you will find an interesting and easy to control game in Gravifire for a few hours of quality playtime.
