It’s time to take a look at the upcoming Switch games that are being newly released on our favourite handheld, the Nintendo Switch. Plus, we also feature Upcoming Steam Games for those of you who prefer gaming on Steam!
Upcoming Switch Games
Not all games to be released are on the list here. Alternatively, you will see games that the other gaming sites don’t mention. We are taking notice of these games. You can expect reviews for many of them if given half a chance! It should be noted that unless we have some personal experience with the game, there’s a link to the descriptions on the Nintendo website.
Spellcaster University – May 2nd

Open your university of mages. Build rooms, train students, slay orcs and bureaucrats, manage budgets… a director’s life is not a quiet one.
Become the director of Spellcaster University in a colourful world of heroic fantasy. Will you turn it into a black magic academy? A place in harmony with nature to train druids and shamans? Or something entirely your own?
Lynne reviewed Spellcaster University and said this in her conclusion:
Spellcaster University is a fantastic deck-building, roguelite simulation.
The text is a little small for the handheld Nintendo Switch screen, and the night cycle is a little dark, which means you miss out on the hilarious actions of the students. However, the more I played, the more I enjoyed Spellcaster University. With the additional challenges and the random nature of the cards, there is plenty of replay value, and I’m looking forward to furthering my studies and aiming to graduate as Archmage!
Dunk Dunk – May 8th

Dunk with or on your friends in Dunk Dunk, a multiplayer action basketball arcade party game full of chaotic fun.
Dunk Dunk is a basketball game unlike any other. It mixes a unique cartoony aesthetic, the strategy and precision of basketball, and the chaotic fun of multiplayer arena platforming action, making for some nail-bitingly tense matches.
Play alone, with a friend or a house full of friends. Dress up your mascots and dunk basketballs, balloons or even anvils in crazy locations from all over the universe like space stations, dinosaur parks and haunted houses. It’s dunk or be dunked (on).
James reviewed Dunk Dunk and said this in his conclusion:
Dunk Dunk isn’t just a good time, it’s an instant good time. There are no long-winded cutscenes, no deep progression systems, and absolutely no filler. It knows what it is: a party-ready, platforming basketball brawl that’s here for short bursts of pure mayhem. It may not convert the hardcore sports simulation crowd, but for fans of platformers, couch co-op, and lighthearted competition, this is a no-brainer.
Throw in a free demo, and Dunk Dunk is a slam dunk for arcade sports fans everywhere.

Collect and unleash powerful cards in turn-based battles, carefully strategising each move to outwit and overcome your foes.
James reviewed Bearnard and said this in his conclusion:
Bearnard is a charming, challenging, and creative game that defies expectations. It’s not for players seeking a fast, button-mashing fix. But for those who love turn-based strategy, puzzle-solving, and unique mechanics, this game is a hidden gem worth discovering. Stick with it through the steep early learning curve, and you’ll uncover one of the most original indie adventures in recent memory. A free demo for Bearnard is available on Steam.

The remote town of Okunezato is shaped like a crescent moon and shrouded in dark myths and legends. Take on the role of a brave young woman journeying into the unknown to uncover dangerous truths and locate her missing brother with her childhood friend.
They find the area rife with mystery and populated by intriguing characters, each harbouring their own hidden motivations. As you dig deeper into the story, you encounter heart-racing twists and turns.
Caroline reviewed 7’sCarlet and said this in her conclusion:
Wow this town of Okunezato in 7’scarlet has some serious issues they have to look into! I did not at first know where the story was going, but I liked the mystery of it all and the added supernatural elements. The romances were fine, I wasn’t completely convinced by them, except for Sosuke and Yuzuki’s route. But if you like a good mystery story, I would recommend 7’scarlet.
Boxville 2 – May 15th

Boxville 2 continues the adventure of cans living in a box city. Two friends were setting up fireworks for the city celebration, but a mistake caused chaos, and one friend went missing. Boxville 2, from Triomatica Games, is the next part of an adventure game about cans living in a box city.
Two can friends had an important job from the mayor to set up fireworks for the city’s celebration. But due to a mistake, the fireworks went off wrong, causing chaos in the city. Worse, one of the friends went missing. Now, the main character, a red can, has to explore different areas and secret spots in Boxville and even travel outside the city to fix everything and find his friend.
American Arcadia – May 15th

Arcadia, a 70s retro-futuristic metropolis where all its citizens enjoy a life of luxury and comfort… unaware that they’re being broadcast live 24/7! Arcadia is not an ordinary city, but the most watched reality show on the planet, where a drop in popularity ratings comes at the highest cost: death.
For an average man with an uninteresting life like Trevor Hills, this could mean serious trouble. Luckily, Trevor is being helped by a mysterious voice who will guide him through American Arcadia’s backstage to his freedom. But is this all real, or just another show gimmick to raise?
Kalina reviewed American Arcadia on Steam and gave it our highest score of Two Thumbs up and said this in her conclusion:
American Arcadia is a fun, colorful adventure with a sense of humor, clever puzzles, and enough sense of danger to keep you going forward. It’s the perfect escape for the wintry months ahead!

A vast abyss, a dragon made of bone, and a girl’s message that begs you to save the world. Trident’s Tale – May 22nd

Set sail for an epic, action-packed adventure in Trident’s Tale, where you’ll become Ocean, a bold young captain on a quest to reclaim the legendary Storm Trident—a mythical artefact that grants power over the seas.
But beware, the ocean is vast, treacherous, and crawling with danger at every turn! So ready the cannons, hoist the sails, and immerse yourself in a gripping tale filled with eccentric characters, cunning dungeons, and adrenaline-pumping battles. You will need to master your magic and embrace your swashbuckling spirit to become the ruler of the seas!
James reviewed the game, but wasn’t sure whether it was good or not. He wrote in his conclusion:
Trident’s Tale is filled with strong ideas and pirate charm, but it’s not ready for prime time, at least not on Nintendo Switch. The technical issues are too glaring to ignore, from the blurry textures to the frame drops and janky animations. If a few substantial patches come down the line, or if the game sees a better-optimised release on other platforms or a potential Switch 2, this could become the fun, breezy adventure it clearly wants to be.
Until then, consider holding off or checking it out elsewhere if possible. There’s a good game under the surface, but right now it’s buried under too many waves of performance problems.
Starlight Legacy – May 28th

Return to the style of 16-bit JRPGS in Starlight Legacy, a non-linear adventure inspired by genre classics! Set in a post-medieval world in the Evaria Kingdom, explore a vast kingdom created with lush 2D pixel art, a nostalgic turn-based battle system and a non-linear story where the four provinces of the kingdom can be explored in any order of your choosing.
In Starlight Legacy, the four provinces of the Evaria Kingdom have lived in peace and prosperity for decades, thanks to the Eternity Tree that enriches and purifies the soil, water, and air of the entire kingdom. But a ban on the education of magic has caused unrest, leading to the rise of a separatist movement to liberate the Sky Province from Evaria.
Margaret reviewed the game, and liked it, saying in conclusion:
Starlight Legacy is a brief but charming throwback to the earliest years of Final Fantasy, with a competent story, familiar gameplay, and a visual style that reminds us why we can’t quit our love of pixelated games. At roughly ten hours of gameplay, it never has a chance to hit a long stride, but it’s a pleasant bite of game for someone looking for a wind-down after this year’s glut of long-play classic JRPGs.
The game is also another great reminder that indie developers are out there doing their best for the love of the game. When it shines through, maybe it still can’t out-gleam the professional classics, but it’s proof that there’s still a lot to this nostalgic genre to love.
