YvoCaro Plays: Looking Back at 2025

The Holiday Season is almost here, and the end of the year is fast approaching. Before we dive into the festivities, I feel it’s time to look back at 2025. What kind of year was 2025 for the world, and for me and my loved ones?

2025 for Planet Earth

When you look back at 2025, you can’t ignore how the world feels heavier. I feel the rift between people has grown wider: neighbours and family are divided by politics, countries are pulled apart by mistrust, and peace worldwide seems so far away. You can see it in the headlines when you pluck up enough courage to check them out, in the way most of us just don’t bring up topics anymore that we expect will lead to disagreements, and in the concern many of us feel that there is worse to come.

And yet, even in a scarier world, people still reach for each other and not only in their own personal environment, but across the world as well, using technology. Playing video or board games together has never been more popular. Technological changes make cross-platform gaming possible, and wholesome and cozy games have never been more popular.

You can still find people with whom you share a passion for a certain game, and realise that their convictions on real-life matters don’t really matter. And a lot of people reach back to the passion they had in their youth for games like Pokémon or RuneScape. It shows us that even now, we can still enjoy one another’s company, whether it’s on the sofa or online. It’s what keeps us hopeful for the future.

2025 Was a Year of Change

For me, 2025 has been a year of change. We moved into a new house, and it was the first time in 30 years that we packed up. I don’t know about you, but it’s not an activity I can recommend. I had no idea how stressful it would be. Of course, it’s also easily forgotten when you get used to your new home, but we still have moving boxes that need to be unpacked.

A cozy living room filled with cardboard boxes and packing materials, suggesting a house in the process of being packed for a move. The space is warmly lit by sunlight streaming through a large window, and plants, books, and household items are neatly organized or partially packed. A comfortable sofa and a small round coffee table remain in use amidst the chaos. Published on: LadiesGamers.

2025 has also been a year of loss. Not in my own family, but it did hit close to home. Paula, with whom I run LadiesGamers, lost her significant other to cancer last Summer. You may have noticed she’s currently not writing as that needs focus and a peaceful frame of mind, and you can understand she has neither right now. But she is very busy behind the scenes, and I wouldn’t be able to run the site without her.

My manager lost her young daughter to that dreadful disease, and as a team, we lived through that horrid time with her and her husband. A colleague I had known for many years died with his wife in an accident on holiday, leaving behind two daughters. Two lives were abruptly ended because of a taxi accident in Egypt.

Somehow, it seemed like bad news kept piling up. My mother-in-law had to move to a nursing home with cognitive problems. And my year was topped up by knee replacement surgery last month. One knee is now done, and the next one is scheduled for January. I can just hope it is all worth it and it will give me more freedom in future.

Looking Forward to 2026

I am so ready for this year to end, and I hope the next one will give me more energy. My daughter is getting married and moving out to live on her own. That will take some getting used to. But with my two new knees, I hope to enjoy some good dancing at her wedding party!

Meanwhile, we will keep the fires burning at LadiesGamers.com going, and keep this passion project going strong!
