Pick 'n' Mix Games

7th Bag of Pick ‘n’ Mix Games

It’s the weekend, which means it’s time for yet another list of Pick ‘n’ Mix Games. The games listed here have been played by the contributors and all cost less than £15.

Tricky Towers – Nintendo Switch

Jonah’s Pick

If you’re looking for a great party game that fits into the budget price bracket, then look no further; Tricky Towers is a tower building physics game, that challenges players to build the biggest towers as possible, without them toppling over. There is also a puzzle mode that requires players to use pieces carefully, so that their bricks don’t pass a set boundary line.

If you play multiplayer, you must either race to the finish line, or build using the most pieces in survival mode. The game supports up to 4 players, both local and wi-fi and provides hours of fun. Multiplayer of course provides the most laughs, but single player is useful to provide both practice and to increase your high score in the online leader boards.

Tricky Towers is currently £13.49 / €14,99 / $14.99 and you can read my review by clicking here.

Vertical Drop Heroes HD – Nintendo Switch
(Code provided by Digerati)

Evriun
Evriun’s Pick

Go on an adventure like no other; avoid hazards as you drop down from platform to platform, battle enemies, free prisoners and survive as long as you can – you may even meet a puppy or two along the way! 😀

Vertical Drop Heroes HD is a great pick up and play game. It has a simple but fun concept with plenty to unlock,  and with a random choice of heroes to choose from and levels that are randomly generated too; each play through is a little different from the last. Great for replay value and there is even a local co-op mode so a friend can join in on the fun! 😀

The game is currently £8.99 / €9,99 / $9.99 – If you want to know more about Vertical Drop Heroes HD, Jonah did a great in depth review recently: Review: Vertical Drop Heroes HD

Egglia: Legend of the Redcap – Mobile

Yvonne’s Pick

Egglia is an RPG that follows the story of a Redcap named Chabo. He mysteriously appears in a very small town in the kingdom of Egglia and is found by an elf named Robin and her faerie partner, Marigold. They welcome Chabo into their town, which is the only part of the world that currently exists. Soon they find that Chabo can open the Niebel eggs that Robin finds and can help in this way to restore her world.

The gist of the RPG gameplay is that you unlock new areas using the Niebel eggs, and the place where you join the new areas to the current map influences what kind of area you will battle in because Egglia is made up out of a variety of biomes. Every location contains three stages for you to explore and the exploration takes place on a hex-based grid spread across the floor. Rolling the dice decides how many places you can move to fight an enemy, open a chest or chop a tree for wood.

I played the game on vacation over a year ago, and looking up the info just now makes me want to dive in again. The detailing in the visuals, all the different races you meet. Questing and decorating their homes..loved it. If you want to know more, here’s my review for the game.

For me, there’s a catch though. There was some outrage that the game that cost me $9.99 back then needed internet to play. So now, they’ve made a free version ( with in app purchases) for offline. But I’ve lost my data and would have to pay again. Going to contact the publisher about that. Still, very nice game, good for pick up and play!

Ghost Trick – DS/iOS

Pikodoodle’s Pick

What to expect from this 2010 Capcom adventure game: A great soundtrack, cool characters, satisfying puzzles, and an intriguing tale. All at a worthy price of $9.99 for the full game on iOS. And the first two chapters are free!

As a recently departed ghost named Sissel, you wake up to a crisis. Not only are you dead and bereft of memory; but there are two people standing over your body and you need to save one (a red-haired girl) from being shot by the other (a shady hitman).

You soon discover you have powers – unusual, even for a ghost. You can enter and control inanimate objects like bicycles, blenders, and wrecking balls. You can travel through phone lines. And you can turn back time! With these powers, you attempt to save the redhead from her unfortunate tendency to die. Ultimately, you hope to discover who killed you and why…
