A nice use of wifi-signals: Denpa Men for 3DS

Some timeĀ ago a cute little game was brought to my attention, Denpa Men 3, the Rise of the Digitoll. Not the first DenpaMen game, but the first one to catch my attention. They elaborated on the game including some home decorating to the RPG element, and that is what drew me in.

Denpamen2Now that I’ve played about half way throughĀ I must say that the decorating part is not very large, but I do enjoy the game. It’s cute, it’s quirky and it’s cheap (€ 9,95 or $ 9,95) and only available in eShop. And what really got my attention is how the Denpa Men can be caught for your game: they seem to be generated by wifi-signals floating through the air, unseen by us, but the 3DS camera picks them up. Each wifi signal gives a specific DenpaMen, multiple wifi signals even give creatures with special properties.

I must have looked very silly in theĀ morning in the train waving my 3DS around trying to catch the illusive shiny Denpa! But who cares, as long as I find the special little critters, and maybe a rare one here and there! Some of the suited up creatures even have the ability to capture and summoned in a fight when some extra power or special attack is needed.Ā Denpamen3

It’s a traditional sort of RPG, turn based battle and a clear storyline to let you sail from island to island. On your quest you encounter colourful monsters of animal-like or plant-like variety, and you’ll have to do your best to balance just the right team to conquer. It’s nice that you can also read new Denpamen from QR codes and even share them online with your friends, making it easier to make the strongest team, or the cutest team, or the most colourful team.

The game isn’t just about fighting though: you can fish anywhere you go, plant and harvest flowers that have certain abilities (a bit like Pokeberries in Pokemon) and there’s even some decorating of their houses, but that’s just a minor bit of the game.Denpamen

I’ll say though that for the price this is one good RPG that you can spend hours of having fun on. It even has streetpass ability, exchanging QR codes and a neat way to catch new DenpaMen. So if you’re looking for a little in between gaming, this might be it!
