It’s that time again, time to bring this week’s handheld gaming news. This week, we have news about Animal Crossing Instagram Account, costume DLC for SoS Friends of Mineral Town, Super Mario Remastered, Microsoft wants to save you money?, Action adventure QV coming this Summer, Nintendo Switch – The remaster class, pre-orders for Colors Live! with Sonar Pen and Donkey Kong Country on the Switch.
Animal Crossing Instagram Account
Tom Nook of course is a celebrity and we all love seeing Isabelle giving us our news on Twitter. To add to that there’s now an Animal Crossing Instagram Account! It was launched last Monday and gained more then a 100K followers in a matter of hours. By now, there are 200K followers already!
The account introduces island residents and their everyday life. So if you want to check up on your favourite villager and his or her daily life, check it out here!
Costume DLC for SoS Friends of Mineral Town
Although some of you may already have gotten the Cow Costume when you pre-ordered Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town, you’ll be pleased to know that if you didn’t, you can still get it. But, at a cost. There are several costumes you can buy as DLC for € 1,99 or $ 1.99 per costume. You can buy a Cow costume, a Chicken costume, a Dog costume, a Chick costume and a Sheep costume.
And, looking at Japan, where the game has been out for a while now, there may be more costumes coming, like a Reindeer costume for Christmas!
Super Mario Remastered
It looks likes Nintendo has some big plans for the 35th anniversary of the long running Super Mario Franchise. Gaming super sleuths have uncovered a new Twitter handle registered to the same details as many popular Nintendo accounts. The handle appears to suggest a Super Mario 35th focused title. Nintendo have openly stated they plan on rereleasing large swathes of the popular plumber’s back catalogue onto the Switch. Maybe we can hope for an anniversary inspired collection sometime soon.
Microsoft wants to save you money?
The consumerist world in which we live doesn’t lend itself to large companies actively trying to save us money, however that’s exactly what Microsoft appears to be doing according to a new report. Insiders claim the Xbox Series X makers have made it clear to developers that the much-coveted Smart Delivery service should remain free. And not locked behind a DLC style pay wall. Smart Delivery allows gamers to purchase a title for the current generation, which will then be upgraded via download to the Series X version at launch. With huge titles such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassins Creed Valhalla still on this generations radar, Smart Delivery could potentially save consumers hundreds of pounds.
Action adventure QV coming this Summer
Publisher CFK revealed details this week of their action adventure QV coming to the Switch later this Summer. The universe consists of dimensions connected with each other.
In the center of interdimensional passages lies the Dimensional Core, keeping the balance between dimensions. But this balance is about to collapse as the Core stopped working all of a sudden.
A girl named “Quby” is the chosen one destined to keep the dimensions stable and balanced. Quby travels to the Gate, which is the cradle of the Dimensional Core. To find the Dimensional Crystals, the fuel to revitalise the Core, she opens a portal to the long-forgotten home planet. With a cast of quirky characters I must say QV looks interesting. Check it out!
Nintendo Switch – The remaster class
In what is a bit of a trend, the Switch might be about to receive not one, but two remastered collections. The rumour mill hit overdrive earlier this week with the discovery of some pretty convincing promotional material. Posters appeared to show an as yet unannounced Tomb Raider collection for Nintendo’s plucky console. Assumptions seem to be that recent Tomb Raider titles won’t be making the cut. With focus perhaps being given to older titles such as Tomb Raider 1 through 3.
This news comes off the back of even more rumours surrounding the much-requested Mass Effect Trilogy remaster from BioWare. With the latest information coming direct from BioWare owners EA. Recently they stated they have over 14 new and remastered titles coming to Switch before March 2021. Fingers crossed we will be flying around in the Normandy once again this Christmas!
Pre-orders for Colors Live! with Sonar Pen
Remember when I mentioned that there was a kickstarter for Colors Live! on Switch that got funded in a day? (find that news snippet here) If you missed out on that one you’ll be pleased to know that the team behind the game has opened pre-orders on its very own store via Gamefound.
There are two different options to choose from: a $39.99 Basic Pre-Order Bundle which includes a digital copy of the game, the SonarPen, and an in-game badge. Or you can go for the works, with the $62.99 Patron Pre-Order Bundle which throws in plenty of in-game extras, a pouch for your pen, access to a beta, and a choice of pen colour.
Here’s the trailer for the game that is the sequel to Colors 3D on the 3DS:
Donkey Kong Country on Nintendo Switch
Constantly, new games are added to the Nintendo Switch system for Switch Online member. Old friends from the Super Nintendo and Nintendo Entertainment System days. One of which is Donkey Kong Country.
Armed with chest-pounding muscle, mighty barrel rolls and awesome vine-swinging skills, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong set out to face their adversaries, K. Rool and his reptilian crew of Kremlings. Play solo, compete with a friend or play cooperatively in over 100 levels filled with collectibles and hidden bonus levels.
XBox – and I feel it’s mostly due to Phil Spencer – has gained my trust, loyalty, and financial vote. I’ve been putting a small amount of money aside each pay period, and plan on getting a launch day XBox Series X. Phil pays compliments when they’re due, does not engage in “console wars”, and seems genuinely happy (and excited) about what MS Studios are accomplishing. Kudos to him for turning the company around!
I have to agree debrief. I have been very impressed with the gamer focused decisions Xbox have been making recently. From GamePass Ultimate to the push on Smart Delivery. I also LOVED the show of solidarity with Nintendo on the Minecraft advert. Really good stuff from them recently.
