Gaming News Weekend 5

It’s that time again, time for the weekend gaming news! This weekend, we’ve got news about: Calming gameplay in Other Waters, Animal Crossing Pocket Camp is now the second grossing game for Nintendo, sales figures for Nintendo, Disgaea 1 Complete on iOS and Android devices, SteamWorld sales this weekend in the eShop and another moving game published by Nakana.io.

Calming gameplay in Other Waters

Games don’t always have to be hectic: sometimes calming gameplay is very enticing after a super busy day. This spring, In Other Waters will come to the Switch (and Steam and Humble). You are an Artificial Intelligence guiding a stranded xenobiologist through a beautiful and mysterious alien ocean. Study extraterrestrial creatures and their diverse environments through a unique interface, uncovering the secret history of this planet.

AC Pocket Camp now second Nintendo mobile game

Sensortower.com monitors mobile gaming, and also brings us a frequent report of the spending people do on mobile games. Looking at Nintendo’s mobile games, Fire Emblem still tops the list with a whopping $656M spent in game. Pocket Camp has moved to second place, with $131M.  Nintendo frequently updated the game adding new features and listening to players feedback to further improve the game. These efforts seems to have paid off, but I wonder if the monthly subscriptions in Pocket Camp Club don’t have anything to do with this!

Nakana.io brings us another moving game

Just this week, Evaristo reviewed Lydia for us. A game by Platonic Partnership and published by Nakano.io. Lydia is a game that made a huge impression on him. Lydia is a game that confronts topics like child neglect, emotional abuse and substance abuse, respectfully, with integrity, and pushes the players to be better by understanding others better. It’s the first game I have ever seen where you can buy DLC with which you help the foundation Fragile Childhood. (The review for Lydia is here)

Next week, another moving game is to be released by Nakano.io. It’s called EQQO, and it is inspired by ancient Ethiopian legends. EQQO is an initiatory adventure, and a love song to nature. It’s the improbable tale of two foreign creatures one to the other… A child who can’t see, and an Egg, as fragile as it is vital.

Using the the powers of the Egg, the players will need to advance through sacred lands and mysterious rooms, awaken the Temple’s sleeping mechanisms, foil ancient traps, and repel the dark forces that want to seize the Egg!

Sales figures Nintendo

I guess gamers will always have the on-going discussion about whether to buy a game digital or physical. It was a hot topic in our writers group this week: with Animal Crossing New Horizons close we have to decide whether to buy the game physical hoping for a pre-order bonus. Of going for the convenience of pre-dowloading it and playing it at midnight.

Anyway, Nintendo published their nine months earnings ending December 31, 2019, and it saw an increase in digital sales once again. Digital means downloadable versions on the Switch and the 3DS of packaged software, download-only software, add-on content, and Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions: they rose to 124.9 billion yen ($1.15 billion), a 48.3% increase on a year-on-year basis.

Oh, and important to mention too: Nintendo Switch hardware sold 17.74 million units (a 22.5% increase on a year-on-year basis) and 123.13 million software units (30.1% increase on a year-on-year basis) with 16 games being million sellers for the nine month period.

Disgaea 1 Complete on iOS and Android devices!

You probably know the Disgaea games, not so long ago the complete versions released on Switch. Now, Disgaea 1 Complete is redesigned for touch input and mobile screens, and available on iOS and Android. It’s a price is € 36,99 with no additional purchases necessary. So less expensive then on the Switch, but a price you don’t see often on mobile. But then, the addition of new features like Auto-battle and Cloud Saves puts the power to conquer the Netherworld in your hands!

About the game:

The Overlord is dead. The Netherworld is in turmoil. Time to kick some ass! Netherworld Prince Laharl awakens to fight for his throne and it’s up to him and some unlikely allies to defend what is rightfully his. Together with his devious vassal Etna, the angel trainee Flonne, and a whole cavalcade of explosive characters, Laharl will slash, shoot, and punch his way to the top. Build your squad to level 9999 and unleash crazy special skills, team attacks, and spells to deal millions of points of damage in this zany high-definition remake of an RPG classic.
