A review code was used, with many thanks to Kouzii.

Back in October 2024, I was able to play and review one of my favorite games of 2024 with Ladies Gamers: Gridlink. So when I saw that the developers had a new game, I was super excited to see what it was all about.

Kombi is a quick, easy-to-pick-up math puzzle game where you need to move blocks around. In order to win, you need to add the numbers around the board up to match with the answer number, all while dodging extra numbers and obstacles and getting your blocks into the finishing spot.

Another Simple Yet Challenging Puzzle Game From Kouzii

Much like GridlinkKombi is an easy-to-learn but hard-to-master game of blocks and numbers. You need to move a block with numbers in it around, collecting other numbers and trying to make it add up to the finishing number. Also similar to the previous game, Kombi is a free title on Steam.

Kombi presents you with 100 total levels in the campaign, and it also has a way to generate new, randomized levels as well. They get progressively more and more challenging; not only do you have to squish all the brown, sliding numbers together into one slot, but you also need to pick up just enough numbers while doing it to equal whatever the finishing block is.

A game board has a bunch of numbers, sliding number blocks, and an answer block that needs to match them in Kombi.
If you take too many turns to solve the puzzle, you get only a half star on the finished level screen.

There is a light mode and dark mode toggle, easy-to-control volume, and all the puzzles appear to be solveable. There are literally endless numbers of puzzles because there is a mode that randomly generates new ones for you to play. The music is fine, and the sound design is good too. The concept is so very simple yet unique, fun, and difficult. I didn’t have any issues while playing Kombi; I was impressed that the developer churned out another stunning, seemingly flawless game in such a short amount of time.

I was very impressed with Kombi, and I look forward to literally anything else this developer decides to make. I’m here for whatever it is!

Dark mode looks like space with stars and a milkway in the background.

Time to slide!

Conclusion

Overall, while Kombi is kind of a silly name, in my opinion (for those who don’t know, kombi is a word for a van or station wagon, taken from German), it’s a great game. I really like the visuals, the polish of the movements and the sliding, the overall feel of the puzzles, the backgrounds, and the puzzles themselves. This is another win for developer Kouzii in my book.

Like Gridlink, I found Kombi really fun and a challenging but simple puzzle game. It took a bit to get a firm grip on how to solve these puzzles, but it got more and more fun as I continued to play. Overall, if you enjoy math puzzles, you’ll probably dig Kombi as much as I did. It’s so hard but easy to pick up and put down when you have a free minute.

If I had to compare the two of them, I think I still like Gridlink better, but Kombi is still a great game. And you can’t beat a great game that is also free. So, if you like puzzle games with numbers, you should give this fun little puzzle game called Kombi a try.

Final Verdict: Two Thumbs Up
Two thumbs up

  1. It’s always a pleasure reading your reviews of my games and I am glad you liked this one!

But it’s interesting to hear that you enjoyed Gridlink more. As it was my first game, I always expected it to be the weakest, what with me learning the ropes and all… A surprising outcome, but a good one nonetheless.

    All the best,
    Kouzii

  2. I’ve been stuck on level 17 for over an hour. It’s a fun game, but my brain is going numb in this one level.
