New writer: Let’s meet Evaristo

I guess it must be the New Year: I want to introduce you to another new writer! After Chloe joined our ranks this week, not it’s Evaristo’s turn:

Let me introduce Evaristo Rivera to you!

Evaristo is 24 years old and lives in the United States. Though he was born in 1995, his four older sisters ensured he was exposed to the music, films, and video games that were coming out at the time. For his fourth Christmas, one of his sisters somehow convinced his parents to buy the family a Nintendo 64. Some of his earliest memories are playing Donkey Kong 64, with himself and each of his sisters playing one of the 5 Kongs. It was wonderful. Needless to say the game had a monumental impact on him.

From then he ran the gamut of the N64 catalogue. Soon after the N64 he somehow stumbled onto the green-and-black dot matrix world of the original Gameboy’s screen, a world which quickly became home. He eventually moved on to the obtuse shape of the Gameboy Advance and then the futuristic styling of the Nintendo DS. He stuck to handheld units until, at the age of 14, his brother-in-law gave him his old gaming PC. This was at the time when new and exciting indie games were being released on Steam on a seemingly weekly basis, games one of his older sisters had introduced him to.

He gained a love for these indie games. Their ingenuity, refined simplicity, and sheer entertainment reignited his love for contemporary games reminding him of the older games he was so fond of. When the Nintendo Switch released and he saw it was quickly becoming the home for indie games and the handheld market he had long loved, he knew he had to get one!
