A whimsical, colourful illustration from "Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery" shows a cartoon spaceship with a detective, a red-haired person, an octopus, and a corgi inside. They float through a starry sky filled with planets and various objects. The game's title is prominently displayed in the centre.

Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery Demo Impressions

A demo code was used, with many thanks to Dead Good Media.

Previously, I’ve reviewed the Hidden Through Time and Hidden Through Time 2: Myths & Magic games; now it’s the turn of the demo for the new game Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery; the demo is part of the Steam Next Fest, and the full game is set to be released sometime this year.

The Hidden Through Time series of games is where you locate hidden objects in a scene, similar to Hidden Animal games or the Where’s Waldo books and puzzles. The game presents you with some objects, animals, and people at the bottom of your screen, which you have to locate. Not all items can be found in a daylight scene, so you can swap between daytime and nighttime at the flick of a button to find all the items. Once you’ve found enough of them, you then move on to the next level.

A cartoon scene from "Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery" depicting an academy courtyard with a fountain and statues. Graduates in caps and gowns are walking and talking. A dialogue at the bottom reads, "This beautiful academy is where Frankenstein attends his classes. Sherlock rather doubts the mystery of creating life is part of the curriculum, but it's probably not a bad idea to have a word with the headmaster about their student's bizarre research."

In the Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery demo, you’ll get a sneak peek into the delightful hidden object game that invites you to explore hand-drawn, interactive landscapes. Once the game is released, there will be three distinct eras to explore: Victorian, Noir, and Sci-fi as you play through the story.

Each scene in the short demo is a treasure trove of intricate details and cleverly concealed items that will challenge your observational skills and immerse you in beautifully crafted worlds. The art style is light and playful, and the inclusion of movement in the objects and people is utilised well, as almost everything moves or makes a sound when you click on it.

Explore at Your Own Pace in Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery

A colourful, cartoon-style scene from "Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery" featuring an alien landscape with waterfalls, strange creatures, and large lily pads. The text at the bottom reads, "Finally back on solid ground, and what interesting ground it is! Anna has discovered her first alien planet, how exciting! It looks like it's already inhabited, too. Let's hope the locals are friendly." The interface includes a "Skip" button on the bottom right.
Lovely illustrations

Another feature of the Hidden Through Time games that I like the most is the emphasis on relaxed gameplay. Unlike many other games in the genre, there are no timers in Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery. You can take your time, soaking in the details and enjoying the search at your own pace. The soundtrack is pretty relaxing and soothing, too.

Hints to Help You Along

The scene is filled with tombstones, mausoleums, and various characters engaging in different activities, including mourning and exploring. The interface at the bottom shows icons of objects to be found, with a message bubble reading "Woah, cool ride!"

If you get stuck, don’t worry. The demo includes cryptic hints that will help you uncover even the most elusive objects. These hints are designed to ensure that players of all skill levels can enjoy the experience without frustration. Whether you’re a seasoned hidden object enthusiast or a newcomer, you’ll find the game accessible and enjoyable for all.

Map Editor in the Full Game

One of the features of Hidden Through Time 2: Discovery is its map editor, which will be available in the full game. The editor will allow you to unleash your creativity by crafting your own imaginative worlds. With a wide array of assets from different eras, you’ll be able to create unique environments filled with a variety of characters. The map editor feature will add replay value to the game, and it will also let you share your creations with the game’s online community and explore other user-generated maps.

The demo offers a glimpse into a world of charm and creativity. With its relaxed pace and beautiful hand-drawn art, the full game promises to be a fun experience for players of all ages.
